چکیده

In reliable multicast communications, data packets are disseminated to all receivers in a multicast group. Generally, end-to-end congestion control adjusts transmission rate of the sender to the node of the lowest throughput in a multicast group. In this situation, when a multicast group includes receivers of significantly low throughput, lots of receivers suffer throughput degradation due to existence of low throughput nodes. This technical problem, called intra-session fairness, is special problem for multicast communications which include lots of receivers whose receiving capability is different in general. This paper proposes a new congestion control scheme for reliable multicast which improves intra-session fairness. A proposed scheme makes use of network support technology to enable a server in a network which includes low throughput receiver beneath it to behave as a pseudo receiver. A server stores arrived data packets and transmits them to receivers beneath it with adjusting transmission rate to the lowest throughput one. A server can hide existence of low throughput nodes to the sender, which enables improvement of intra-session fairness. Simulation results show that our proposed congestion control scheme improve intra-session fairness with increase of servers. We also show strategic arrangement of servers brings better improvement of intra-session fairness with small number of servers.

Explicit Rate Adjustment For Multi-Rate Multicast Congestion Control Using TCP Throughput Equation And Packet-Pair Probe

Absfract-The. Multi-rate Multicast Congestion Control (MR-MCC) scheme has been considered as a suitable scheme for multicasting, for .a very large heterogeneous group of receivers. In. this work, we proposea new design of MR-MCC using explicit rate.adjustment based on TCP throughput equation and Packet-pair Probe. The design . goals are: scalability, resporkiveness, fast convergence, fairness (...

Congestion Control for Reliable Multicast Achieving TCP Fairness

In the paper, we propose a congestion control scheme for reliable multicast communication which enables TCP fairness and prevents a drop-to-zero problem. The proposed congestion control scheme is rate-based one based on NAKs from receivers and cooperatively works with a flow control scheme. The congestion control scheme consists of two components of a ratebased controller and a selection mechan...

Explicit Rate Adjustment (ERA): Responsiveness, Network Utilization Efficiency and Fairness for Layered Multicast

To provide layered multicast with responsiveness, efficiency in network utilization, scalability and fairness (including interprotocol fairness, intra-protocol fairness, intra-session fairness and TCP-friendliness) for layered multicast, we propose in this paper a new multicast congestion control, called Explicit Rate Adjustment (ERA). Our protocol uses an algorithm relying on TCP throughput eq...

A new congestion control algorithm for layered multicast in heterogeneous multimedia dissemination

Layered multicast is a promising technique for disseminating adaptive-quality audio/video to multiple heterogeneous receivers. Congestion control in a layered multicast scheme is very important to support heterogeneity and scalability. Previous works on congestion control use packet loss, delay, and receiving rate to infer whether there is spare capacity along the path, which suffers from slow ...
